Summer Color Surprise Blog Hop!

Lisa Lodge of Pine Ridge Treasures recently put up a call on the Creative Bead Chat Group on Facebook for a Blog Hop that she wanted to do.  You purchase a kit from her and she sends you a rather large bead soup in a surprise color for you to use for the blog hop.  I just had to jump on the bandwagon for this.  And I am so glad that I did.  Lisa sent me a color that I never use....

The rules were really simple.  We had to use 50% of what Lisa sent us in our piece.  The only thing that I added was purple Toho seed beads and a piece of lovely silk ribbon and a brass button for the clasp.  I really did not have a plan when I started this.  I was thinking of doing something in free-form peyote but being such a control freak that just did not work out lol.  This is as free-form as I get it seems.  So using a color that I never ever use I came up with this:

Purple Passion

A Closer Look

  1. Its funny we got colors we hardly ever use, and that gave us even more of a challenge. You did it more than justice. Great job!

  6. Love how you wrapped either side of that gorgeous focal with the silk ribbon, and the way you wove and blended the beaded strands of the bracelet. Great colors. Very cool Marla!

  8. Great job, Marla! Beautiful seed bead work, and the way you used the silk ribbon is awesome. I would wear this in a heartbeat! It seems to be a trend that a lot of the participants received colors that they do not particularly like, or that they work with infrequently. The cool thing is that everybody tried new things, stretched out of their color comfort zone, etc. I am so glad that everyone had a great time in the hop - thanks for participating!

  9. Ooh! You got to work in my favorite color!

I'm with Tammie. You seed beaders blow me away. That stitch weaves the colors and shapes together in such a gorgeous way.

    Yummy!

  11. Very pretty piece. I love the colors you got and you put them together nicely. I've never seen a ribbon used that way and it looks good. What technique did you use? I'm just a beginner in beadweaving.

  16. I'm not sure I can tell how you made this. Is it strands of seed beads braided? I agree with the other comments, the ribbon use is fantastic! I just love it! Unusual, and it really hits the mark. The bracelet looks fantastic!
